The DIS COMMUNICATOR
Book Fair Begins This
Week
This is a busy week to start off a busy month. Our annual Fall Book Fair is being held from October 29th through November 2nd in the DIS Library. The fair will be open for business each day during regular school hours, and students will have the opportunity to shop with their class. Please stop by and check out the intriguing offerings.
Krispy Kreme Orders Are Due November 2nd
For the second year, the DIA is selling Krispy Kreme Donuts to raise funds to benefit our school. Last yearŐs inaugural effort was a tremendous success, netting $7200. The Krispy Kreme ordering information should have come home in last TuesdayŐs folder. The deadline for placing an order is this Friday, November 2nd. Diets aside, it is everyoneŐs patriotic duty to order at least a dozen donuts this week. Donuts will be available for pick up on November 9th from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please note that donut orders MUST be picked up by an adult.
Honors Programs to be Held This Coming Friday
November 2nd is also the date of our first set of honors programs for the 2007-2008 school year. These programs recognize the achievements of DIS students and classes during the first nine weeks of the year. The third grade assembly will take place in the gym at 12:30. The fourth grade program follows at 1:15, and the fifth grade students will receive their awards at 2:00. Parents, families, and friends are invited.
Fourth-Graders Enjoy Nashville Field Trips
Half of the fourth grade students participating in the Nashville Trip to the Science Adventure Center and Tennessee State History Museum returned from that adventure this past Saturday with many tales to tell. The other hub, representing the classes of Streckert, Green, Hogue, James, Saye, and McKelvy will trek to Nashville this Friday to see what is in store for them.
Mrs. Patty HamptonŐs class is studying pioneer living as part of their social studies course. One of the classroom activities is to make apple butter the good old-fashioned way. Later this month the class will visit the Pioneer Village at Gibson County High School.
During the month of November, our school will focus on
emergency procedures, providing teachers and students with practice on how to
address various school crises.
