HOSTS is a reading/math mentoring program that accelerates student performance, while involving members of the community as partners. Volunteer mentors who are willing to donate 30 minutes per week to help a child are the backbone of this program.

HOSTS is not a curriculum, but an instructional strategy designed to be integrated into the DIS curriculum. .Instruction is delivered through a one-to-one relationship between the student and the mentor with the support of a full-time certified HOSTS teacher.

Pat Davidson and Alice Eison have been trained to coordinate the program at DIS.

HOSTS volunteer mentors will receive exceptional training and support. Learning assignments and activities are prepared daily by the HOSTS teacher for each student.  User-friendly student folders guide the mentor in reinforcing the classroom teacherÕs instruction.
