Descriptions:
4-H Club: The DMS 4-H club is open to all three grade levels. This club is a part of a state organization that is committed to learning experiences that help young people develop their talents, interests, and leadership abilities. The program coordinators are Mrs. Mandy Drewry and Mr. Clint Bane with the University of Tennessee Extension Service. Students are offered many opportunities to learn and participate in a variety of projects from nutrition to wildlife. The club's current community project is a recycling project of aluminum cans collected at DMS. Members are expected to participate in at least one community project per year, complete a project book, and also do a demonstration at one of the club meetings.

Basketball Poets' Club: “Full Court Verse” This club will consist of writing poetry as we explore the game of basketball.  Our prose and lyrics will incorporate terminology used on and off the court as it relates to the game of basketball. Students will be required to compose poetry that will be shared within the group. The game of basketball will be taught using the basic fundamentals of the game and the students will be allowed to exhibit their skills in a mock game that will be played during club time or TBA.

Environmental Club (6th grade): The goal of the Environmental Club is to help students grow in their awareness of environmental concerns and how they can help protect their environment. Club members will study birds, butterflies, plants, and trees. Club members will participate in work-days for the Outdoor Classroom, help set up blue bird boxes, plant flowers for the butterfly garden, and develop plans for the further development of our Outdoor Classroom area.

Chess Club: The Chess Club will learn the fundamentals of chess. This club is for beginners and novices. It will be the goal of each member to develop a lifetime activity. It is an activity that will develop thinking skills, decision making skills, and communication skills. It will also provide enjoyment and a challenge among the club members.

Trojan Troopers: Trojan Troopers is a service oriented club designed to benefit DMS staff and faculty. Projects include Teacher Appreciation Day and specific projects requested by individual teachers. As a service to our school, we aid teachers in their team area with "special" services. If you want to be a true Tennessee volunteer, join the Trojan Troopers Club.

Trojan Pride Newspaper Club: "EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it!" DMS sixth graders will learn about journalism and create their own newspapers. If you have a nose for news and like to write, create comics, interview people, or take pictures join our staff. Students need to be responsible and attend each meeting. (Limit of 15 students.)

DMS On-Line Newspaper: New for '06-07 -- You asked for it, you got it! There will now be a school-wide newspaper for grades 6, 7, and 8 that will be published on the DMS webpage. Students will learn basic journalism skills and complete assignments for the on-line newspaper. Limit 5 students from each grade. (15 students total)

Stars & Stripes: Club members will help bring a little bit of home to friends and family members serving in the military. We will collect, package, and mail goodies and supplies to troops serving overseas, as well as write letters to them. If you are interested in supporting men and women who are serving in the military that are friends or relatives of students or faculty members in this school, then this club is for you!!!! Please join us in this fun and rewarding experience!

Net Surfers (6th grade): The Net Surfers Club is designed to expand computer skills for sixth graders attending DMS. Club meetings take place in team area 6D under the guidance of Mrs. Laurie Kerr. Students will learn how to do engine searches, bookmark their favorite websites, make a folder, and utilize the desk accessories. In addition, they will learn about the top ten programs of the Macintosh computer. Students will be allowed to play computer games.
