Top 8 of the 8th

These Dyersburg Middle School students finished their middle school career with the distinct honor of being on the Golden Honor Roll every nine weeks period while at DMS.  This means these students made straight A's all three years at DMS.  We are very proud of these students and congratulate them on this great accomplishment.  I guess we could call them, THE TOP 8 of EIGHTH!  What a great group of students with a promising future ahead of them!


DMS Trojans Travel to the Marshall Space Center in Huntsville

On May 21, 2007, the DMS 7th grade ITP and Plus 1 students went to participate in the Astrotrek program at the space center in Huntsville, Alabama.  They toured the site, looked at rockets, watched IMAX movies about Mars and the moon, and rode simulators to find out what it is like to travel in space.  The students stayed three days, each day learning something new about space, planets, space history and new advances in technology.  It was a great experience that the students were glad to receive.



Tennessee Renaissance Festival














DMS 6th graders participating in the Plus 1 enrichment program are learning about the Middle Ages and Renaissance. They recently attended the Tennessee Renaissance Festival in Triune, Tennessee. They toured the Castle Gwynn, saw a jousting tournament, met costumed period characters, including Queen Elizabeth, and viewed other entertainment from the time period such as dancing and fire-eating.

Members of the 6th grade newspaper club, Trojan Pride, recently visited the State Gazette, Tri-State Christian TV Station, WASL Radio, and the DHS Trojan Torch class.


Donation to Red Cross

Dyersburg Middle School sixth grade students presented American Red Cross representative, Faye Pillow, with a $50 donation.  In addition, students from Team 6B recently attended an American Red Cross presentation on Earthquake Awareness. 


Geography Bowl Winners

Dyersburg Middle School recently sponsored the National Geographic Geography Bowl. The winner will now compete in statewide competition with the chance to compete in Washington, D.C.

Spelling Bee Winners


All six will advance to the countywide spelling bee in January to represent DMS.


UT Martin Writing Seminar

Fourteen DMS students from the ITP/Plus 1 enrichment program attended a Writer’s Clubhouse at UT Martin. The seminar emphasized creative writing. The students spent the day advancing their writing skills. 

Environmental Club Guest Speaker

Environmental Club invited Mr. Keith Pitts from Firestone to discuss what Firestone does to help keep our environment clean.


He is the father of Kate Pitts. He told us how Firestone is concerned about their waste products and tries to find ways to keep them out of our landfill.He told us how important it is to the company to minimize waste and pollution.Did you know that Bridgestone/Firestone donated 4,000 acres of wilderness to TWRA in

Sparta, TN?The E-club agrees that Firestone is a great company to have

in our community.


Jeff Agee, President of First Citizens National Bank recently spoke to 8th grade students about the Tennessee Scholars program. Tennessee Scholars is a state-wide initiative to encourage students to take a more challenging curriculum in high school. Business and industry are teaming with education to get the message about Tennessee Scholars to our youth.

During Fall Intersession twenty-eight 6th graders participated in “Around the World in Five Days” which consisted of studying maps, costumes, crafts, and food from a variety of countries. The week culminated in a trip to the Parthenon in Nashville as well as a visit to the Treasures of Ancient Egypt exhibit at the Frist Center.

Dyersburg Regional Medical Center is a partner with Dyersburg Middle School in the Adopt-A-School Program. Mr. Wheeler spoke to the students on the Greek style of cooking and discussed ingredients in Greek cuisine. The students enjoyed getting a chance to sample some of the food Mr. Wheeler had prepared which included a traditional Greek salad with feta cheese, chicken, spanakopeta, and baklava.


Dr. Dave Pitts, professor of ornithology from UT Martin shared his "birds on a stick" with the Environmental Club. Students learned how to identify backyard birds that may come to their feeders this winter.
