In commemoration of the 1996 Tennessee Bicentennial, the teachers, students, and parents of the Dyersburg Primary School developed a 40' by 120' environmental garden in the shape of the state of Tennessee on the school's front lawn. The environmental and physiographical features identified in this garden serve as an "On the Ground Textbook" incorporating the studies of geography, science, math, and language arts while it also emphasizes community/individual stewardship responsibilities.
The Dyersburg Primary Tennessee Garden received the "1996 Environmental Awareness Award" from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. This award is given to schools which have performed exceedingly well in environment/conservation stewardship.
Through Computer Technology (Internet) the students are able to share and exchange environmental facts/features that are unique to their state with other students around the world!
Below, Mrs. Patsye and students identify our state tree, the Tulip Poplar.

WHEN WILL ALL THE FLOWERS BLOOM?
They planted about 100 "King Alfred" daffodils on October 17th, then predicted when these bulbs will bloom. Classes from Oregon, Indiana, and Texas are also participating in this project. We are all looking forward to spring!!!!
